I need to have the cable on my heater switch repaired. The switch works okay but the cable is broken right at the switch. Is there someone who provides this service or is this something that can be done myself. I have tried to find a complete unit, switch and cable, but to no avail. If someone has one or knows someone who does I would be happy to purchase. Would Mary-Jo Rohner have one?

Re: 1959 heater switch
Gary, Had the same problem with my 58. I ended up just soldering the straight end of the wire into the end of the shaft of the switch. It works fine but there is a resistance to the rotation of the fan speed switch since the cable must now also rotate. If you go this route, make sure you solder the wire in the shaft so it "rests" at the "off" position for the fan. This method is functional / cheap /quick but it likely would not pass judging. Looking forward to other responses on how else to fix this problem. Mary Jo most likely has these but they are expensive. Saw one on e bay go for about 250!!! Good luck Ken- Top

Re: 1959 heater switch
These are available, even as NOS parts, but they tend to be quite expensive. I have been able to buy a couple of working used ones for around $125-150 at swap meets. It sounds like there should be some way to repair yours. Usually it is the electrical part that fails. I think the cable was swaged onto the "D" shaftand ther eought to be some way to re-swage it. If you can find an assembly at a swap meet with bad electrical parts (the plastic discs inside usually break)you could make one good one from the two.- Top
