Re: C2: '63 parking brake assembly
Gary, The easiest way to install the brake is to install everything prior to attaching the cable through the firewall. I found it impossible to work under the dash while upside down. This is what I have done. I installed a new spring and pawl as well as a new stop pin. I ignored the large holes at each end of the shaft. When installing the emergency light switch and the capacitor, position the switch so as the small slot on the bottom of the switch is in the tube at the rear of the tube. I used masking tape on the switch to allign it prior to tightening the screw. Take the tape off after assembly. When installing, push the unit throught the firewall and finger tighten the mounting bolts under the dash. Push the cable into the tube through the firewall enough to where you can insert the stop-pin. ensure that it is all the way in. Then install the U clamps. Put the capacitor on the black wire from the harness. It does not matter what contact on the switch you use. Re-attach the oil line, tighten all the bolts. I sent an email with my phone number if you want to discuss. Good Luck- Top

Re: C2: '63 parking brake assembly
Gary:
I recently installed the e-brake on my 63. I found that the beveled side of the handle stop pin worked best when it faced the left side of the car. This position seemed to make it easier to activate the switch. I also attached the cable to the handle and put the inside clip on the handle assembly, then inserted the cable and handle through the firewall and put on the firewall side clip. The large hole on the bracket seemed to allow acces for the oil pressure pipe to the guage.- Top

Re: C2: '63 parking brake assembly
Gary,
It sounds like you have accounted for all the correct parts in the 1963 emergency brake assembly. I completely assembled mine before installing it into the car (cable, stop pin, switch). Don't forget to purchase a new rubber firewall seal before installation. If you need a picture email me and I will send one along, also check your assembly manual and it will show how the switch is indexed in the housing and where the firewall seal is located.- Top

Re: C2: '63 parking brake assembly
All,
Thanks for the great responses! Harry, thanks for letting me call you also. That helped a lot.
I installed the E-brake as you guys suggested. It went in very easily.
While I was under the dash inserting the two bolts of the E-brake to the frame, it hit me quite obviously as to the purpose of that hole in the front plate. I didn't realize that it was that close to the back of the oil gage! (I didn't have my oil line connected at the time.) So, the E-brake is in and so is the oil line.
Thanks again,
Gary- Top
