I have my original intake to go on the car I am building ( a 60) but it is missing the flat "tin" metal part that attaches to the bottom. I gather that it will not come to the correct temperature without it. I am looking in my "junk" yard for a manifold that is trash and plan to put one on. Any thoughts on this subject. Doc Glick

The sheet metal shield was there to keep oil in the lifter valley from "coking" on the bottom of the hot exhaust crossover passage; the intake manifold won't know any difference whether it's there or not. Good idea long-term to have it in place, but it's not essential to correct operation.- Top

Doc----
When I installed a new (old used.) intake manifold on my 55 vette, the plate on the bottom was missing also. We went to the local siding shop and got a small piece of aluminum sheeting ( cost us a $2.00 donation to their coffee jar) and attached it. we knew about what it looked like. It appears to be doing the job.
