    Holley date code question

I have a Holley list 3367 with a 4743 primary metering body stamp. According to my 66 judging guide, this is for an L79 without AIR. The place where the date code should be stamped has "1046" stamped there. This is obviously not a 65 or 66 date code. Can anyone tell me what date it represents?

The p/n above the 3367 is 3884504. Also the primary metering body has 4508 stamped on it. According to the guide, this may be a list # as they were stamped on "later" units.

    Thanks

    Holley date code question

    Rich,

The 4 digit code indicates that you have a later "service dated" carb. Original '66 L79 carbs should have a 3 digit date code, such as 661, which stands for the 1st week of June in 1966. I don't know how to decipher the 1046 date code, but in any case, that carb is not original to your car.

      Re: Holley date code question

Hmmm ! NCRS Spec guide says that some Holley carbs may be dated using a 4 digit system. The first three digits are the Julian calendar date with the fourth digit being the last digit of the year of manufacture. Now this 4 digit system is generally believed to have begun with the 1970 year. Hence, your number 1046 would decode as the 104th day of the year 1976. My $0.02.

        1046 translates into Wednesday April 14, 1976.

          Re: Holley date code question

Thanks for the info. I don't have this one on the car, just came to my hands recently. I got 2 votes for 76 and one for 71, indicating the first digit as the year and the last 3 being the 46th day vs. 2 votes for the first 3 digits being the 104th day of year 6.

In any case, the answer is good enough for me. Thanks.

            Re: 76' or 86' or.......

Could be 104th day of 76 or 86 or 96. The 4 didgit code is only on service replacement carbs. Original carbs have the 3 digit code.

Rich - as Bob comments, could be 76,86, or 96. Look at the bowl mount screws, the older screws were a slotted screw with a taper edge, the newer units (at least back as far as 89) had a hex head cap screw. If you have the slotted head screws, I would guess 76 first, maybe 86.....Craig

Thanks, just looked. The screws are slotted/tapered.
