    C2: Exhaust pipe PN#'s

Just removed a set of rear-section under car exhaust pipes and found part numbers stamped on them: 3963497 & 8.

Just wondering if these are service replacement pipes that require clamped-on mufflers or perhaps original pipes that may have been "de-mufflered". Thanks!

Dan, as far as I know (on C3s) only the header pipes were stamped with the part number. The tail pipes were part of an assembly (pipes and muffler) with a part number paper tag on the front of the muffler.

You sure about the second digit? My P&A catalog shows 3863497/8 as the rear replacement sections for 64-67 w/ 2.5" pipes.

The rear section of the base exhaust system was serviced with separate rear pipes and mufflers that were designed to be clamped in the field. Only the off-road system was serviced with the rear pipe section welded to the muffler.

Different part numbers are shown for '63 probably because of the required jogs to clear the under-seat depressions, but these pipes will probably work on a late '63 without the under-seat floor pan depressions, and for this reason the off-road system will not fit on a '63 with the floor pan depressions.

Of course, you're right Duke. Second digit is an "8." Pecking the key board with uncoordinated fingers led to the typo. As always, thanks for the information.
