    67 Wiper arm question

I have been emailing with a guy and he describes to me an NOS 67 LH wiper arm that they have. He says that it is GM Part # 3915861 and still in the GM bag that has one side clear. It has the brushed finish with one rivet on top and an adjusting screw on the side and the spring cover says Trico. However he tells me that "the short section that pushes onto the wiper shaft appears not be stainless but is a dark grey color". Is this correct? Is the cap supposed to be dark grey or have the same brushed finish as the rest of the arm? Thanks!

    Nick,

I believe mine to be original and the caps are the same satellite finish as the rest of the arm.

Nick - According to the '67 Corvette AIM UPC 1ASM, Sheet D3 the 3915861 Rod Asm (wiper arm assembly) replaced the 3888297 Rod Asm. The date shown is 11-9-66. So, depending on availablity, etc back then the 39xxxxx part number probably made it to production cars early in the 1967 calendar year. Is the part appropriate for your car, it depends on when it was built. When did the part make it to the assembly plant and start getting installed is difficult to pin point; but you wouldn't expect to find it on real early '67s but maybe by Dec, 1966 or Jan 1967 cars at the earliest. Another indicator might be the configuration of the other windshield wiper arm; but if your car was producted in the transition period, it's possible for it to have had a 38xxxxx part number wiper arm and a 39xxxxx part number arm. E-mail me if you need additional info on the specifics of the configuration differences between the 38 and 39 arms. Pete

        Pete,

Thanks! My car is a late February 67 so I know that the part number 3915861 is correct. My issue has to do with the finish and color of the cap part of the wiper arm. I suspect it should be the same brushed finish and not dark grey. I Thoughts?

Nick - I have noted on NOS 39xxxxx part number windshield wiper arms that the bottom piece has a grey appearance and doesn't appear to be brushed like the body piece it attaches to. I assumed (but perhaps incorrectly) it was the same as was installed on the cars and since they were NOS. In addition, the color didn't concern me since my late '66 and early '67 had the 38xxxxx part number arms which do in fact have the brushed finish in the bottom piece. I'm assuming your car has both the 39xxxxx1 and 2 arms so the base piece on the one you're looking to buy should match the one on your car. That should be the acid test. Pete

Incorrect assumption and that is why I am looking to replace the wiper arms.

My LH wiper arm is definitely not correct. It has 2 rivits on top and no adjusting screw on the side though the spring cover does say Trico on it. The cap is a brushed finish.

The RH side looks to be the correct part but I am not sure: It has the brushed finish, one rivit on top and an adjusting screw on the side. The cap is a brushed finish too. However the spring cover is missing. Any way to tell if this is the 39xxxxx2 part?

            Thanks for all your help!
