C2: Heater shut off valve vacuum switch access

I have a suspicion that I have a vacuum leak eminating from the A/C vacuum heater valve shutoff switch that is buried in the dash (the hose may have been pulled off). Can this be easily accessed by taking out the glove box? If not, is that any easy way to ge to it?

Yes, Its easy, but its probably bad anyway. Use the plastic switch on the later 70s cars.

as wayne stated, the switch is easy to get to. those little brass switches on c-2 c-60 equipped vets were worn out by the time my 64 coupe became mine in l971. I tried to repar the original but had no luck. eventually the switches were repo'd. i got one from Long Island corvette about 15 years ago & it still works fine

What's the symptom when they go? In this case, the shut-off isn't getting vacuum, so no hot water is getting to the heater core. Sound familiar?

It is a simple switch. Vacuum is delivered to the valve and it either allows it to pass or it doesnt. If you are not getting vacuum to the switch you need to look elsewhere.

if you aren't getting vac.to the switch, check the small rubber hose from intake manifold/carb vac.source--i'll bet the hose isn't intact any longer. engine generated vac.leaves the engine , goes to the switch, then goes to the heater hose valve.when the switch goes basd , the leak occurs at the switch, and can be detected by blowing cigarette smoke in the vicinity of the switch and visualizing a turbulence of the cig.smoke. God forbid you still smoke--get the redneck neighbor who sstill smokes to do the test for you. goiod luck mike

Figured I might replace all the vac hoses while I'm in there too. The neighbor is a two pack a day'er, so this ought to be easy. Thanks, Mike.
