Hello all,
What amperage battery was originally installed in a L84? Also, I am curious as to how may more amps you could safely use. Will more amperage give me more cranking power?
Thanks in Advance,
Larry
Larry, There is no such thing as having too many amps. If the battery is capable of delivering what the starter draws at nearly 12V, thats all the amperage it will draw. If you had a battery that was capable of delivering 1000 amps it would make little or no difference.
Back in '63 batteries were not rated in CCA and reserve capacity, but amp-hours, and I think the amp-hour rating for the Corvette Group 24 battery was 62. Any modern Group 24 battery will have plenty of cranking power to start the car in anything above sub-zero temperatures. Not sure of the exact number, but the minimum CCAs of even the cheapest group 24 battery is about 500.
