    Headlamp Warning Switch 1968-1972

Does anyone know how the headlamp warning switches work? I know the wiring circuit. Activation of either or both switches causes the circuit to be completed and the dash light turns on. What is the mechanism in the switch that makes the switch close? Thanks.

    Tony,

There is a small push in waterproof switch on one side of the square switch that closes on contact with the headlight frame when headlights are in the closed position. The wiring harness plugs into one end of the square switch w/ a waterproof connection. The switch has a male threaded end which goes through a hole in the headlight mechanism and is held by a locknut. Hope you are not more confused now.

In engineering parlance, switches are SPST NC (single pole, single throw & normally closed) wired in parallel. When HL buckets are down/closed, there is no contact to the switches, both switches are closed and complete a path to ground for the dash mounted warning lamp. When the HL buckets are up/open, there is switch contact, the switch open circuits, ceases to make contact to ground and when BOTH HL buckets are up/open, the dash warning light goes out. Switch construction technology is referred to as a 'microswitch'....
