    '56 harmonic balancer

I am in need of a deep groove harmonic balancer for my '56 dual quad 265/225. I am looking for one that is in good to very good condition and one that has not been altered. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also need it ASAP. Nothing like asking for the world huh? Thanks!

          Dave,
It's missing altogether. The discussion now is should it be the shallow or deep pulley set-up. What is your vote? 1956 VIN #3241

            Garry,

The pulley on my 56 E56S003190, which I believe to be original, was a shallow groove pulley. Steve

Steve, I know you are working on yours as we speak. Is it a 225hp or 210hp?

Gary, My 56 #1316 225hp has a deep groove pulley.
Also try Goat Hill, I'm not sure of his phone #
or E-mail addy but it's probably in the Driveline.

                    Re: '56 harmonic balancer

Thanks guys for all of your help and insight into this mystery. It first appeared as though the deep pulley was used very late in the '56 production but Rob's information just blew that theory out of the water. The mystery will continue. I did find a shallow pulley version so that is what I am going to go with as long as when I get it , it's in good shape.

Re: '56 harmonic balancer - Garry

                      Garry,
I checked my late May '56.I know the balancer is original. The belt rides about even with the top of the puley, as does this belt ride at the top of the water pump and generator pulley.

The '56 parts book lists '55-'56 Corvette balancer as a separate item. In the '60 parts book the '55-'57 Corvette including '58 (first design) Corvette and '58'-'59 passenger car as: PULLEY, balancer (stamped 3743587).
I have not heard of a deep groove pulley for '56 (doesn't mean there wasn't one). I don't think it arrived before mid May. Until the arrival of the Duntov cam, I would think the need for a deep groove anything was minimal. Regards

                        Jim,
As always, thanks for your input. Looks like shallow grooves are taking the lead.

Garry, Upon further consultation with Jim I was wrong in my
previous post.I now believe that the harmonic balancer pulley
on my car is a shallow grove.
Sorry for any confusion I may have caused

No problem. Now everything is falling into place. Thanks.
