    63 side emblems

Can someone tell me how I cam determine the correct side emblems ( thin or thick ) for my SWC? It has an early body with the depressions under the seats and the vin# is 9895. The thin emblems were used on the 62 and eaarly 63's but I can't find out about what VIN# the changeover to the thicker emblems was made. Any help would be gratly appreciated. # 39247

    Re: 63 side emblems

My recollection from prior discussions is that the thin flags were limited to VERY early production. Your car is early March production. I didn't check to see what the JG has to say, but you might want to check it.

My car was built March 19 and it has the thick flags and underseat depressions typical of mid production cars.

I’m really surprised but the judging manual doesn’t specify when the changeover occurred.

Duke: Thanks for your reply. I had checked the judging guide but that did not give me a clue as to when the change might have been made. When I bought the car it had the thick emblerms on it, but the car had previous front end damage, so I am not sure if they are correct or not. Thanks again for your reply.

Who do you believe? According to M.F.Dobbins Fact Book 1963-1967, he states that the side flags on all 63's are thin profile. Another book,"Corvette Restoration Source Book 1953-1967" written by Rick Johnson says the side emblems on the 63's are thick. The NCRS JG doesn't mention anything, nor does Noland Adams book. How do the judges determine what is "Correct"/

Except for very early production, probably no more than 2000 cars, if that, they are "thick".

              PS

look at the AIM sect. 11-13 sheet 1.00. The last engineering change to this sheet, which shows the side emblem (item 30) is dated 11-27-62, and there is no change reference symbol for the emblem, so now I wonder if "the early cars than thin side emblems" is a myth.

I owned #1327 and it came with (well worn) thin emblems. That would put it within your estimate of apporx first 2000 cars.
