    Sportsman Class

What is it? I don't see it listed in the NCRS awards list.

    Re: Sportsman Class

    Roger:

    1. It is a special class for "also rans".

    2. It is basically a donation to the NCRS coffers.

    3. It is a meaningless "award" for those who "came to the party, but can't dance".

      I hope....

that's tongue-in-cheek humor in your response, Joe.... Sportsman is a bona fide award available to any NCRS member who wishes to drive his Corvette to a meet and NOT undergo Flight Judging. For years, outsiders critized the club as being bent/warped on factory originality, making trailer queen museum pieces out of Corvettes, not driving them and failing to understand the legitimate objectives of non-concours owners who wanted to add feature/functions and modify their Corvettes from factory original configuration. The Sportsman award was instituted to specifically address those needs.

I've got a chapter meet coming up next weekend and we've got eight cars registered for Flight judging and TEN cars enrolled for Sportsman. I guarantee you, we'll USE those Sportsman cars during Flight judging as visual contrast(s) for the owners who are being Flight judged. What does a 'correct' this/that look like? How should this/that have been assembled?

The Sportsman cars play a SIGNIFICANT role on our judging field + they provide 'correct' transportation to/from the meet for those members who are NOT having their Corvettes judged (they come and go in a real Corvette vs. a Suburban or Ford Mustang). Also, getting the necessary prerequisites to achieve the final Sportsman's Award plaque (20-points in a 3-year period) isn't trivial!

Being 'landlocked' in Denver (MILES from anywhere else), it's a major drive to attend other chapter/regional/national meets. Heck, we've got just about every other major NCRS award represented in our Chapter (Duntov, McClellan, Flight, Founders, Star, Bowtie) EXCEPT for a Sportsman plaque! And, as you can see from the statistics I quoted on our upcoming meet, it's NOT because our membership thinks the Sportsman class is a trivial proposition....
