    C1 - 62 intake manifold

I'm having some work done to my intake manifold (a single 4 bbl from a 62). My engine shop guy is asking me if I want the side holes and pathway cleaned out (from the base that the carb. attaches to) or plugged. My question is, what does this do, balance pressure between the two sides of the engine? What passes throught this area? Is the function critical for operation or not needed? The pathway seems to be rusted solid and of the two holes, one is plugged solid with??? the other is 50% open. Any thoughts??? Thanks!!!

    Re: C1 - 62 intake manifold

the passages in the intake are intended to act as a pre-heater for winter easy starts. If you are just using the car in warm weather, use the metal block-off plates provided with most gasket sets. If you are using the car in winter weather, have the shop clean the runners so the car starts easier.

The reason to block it is for the judge ,to keep the intake paint from burning black. To be original you should show burned paint, but then the same judge wont to see over spray paint on the exhaust manifolds that should have burned off.

        62 intake manifold crossover...

IF your car is equipped with a heat valve on the RH side, the manifold crossover MUST be clear to prevent excessive back pressure. Even in summer weather, this crossover helps driveability when the engine is cold.

            Re: 62 intake manifold crossover...

I am currently running a spacer in my manifold to exhaust pipe connection if this makes a difference. Also, the passage way between the two holes seems to be filled with rust, I can probably clean it out but how big should it be? The gasket and carb (aftermarket) dont seem to be prepped for this passage either, does that matter?
            Thanks for the answers everyone!!!

Clean the rust out best you can , then useing air blow it clean, the hole is not very large. Some after market gaskets don't have the holes, but get one that has.
