    63 Trim Tag

Saw a very interesting trim tag today, BUT I can't find the brake-down in any of the books I have for the trim. So here goes 1963 Corvette Conv. Build date F5,Body#4310, Paint 936 (White), HERE IS THE HOOK!! Trim 490W,I looked at this tag VERY closely,It's a "W". The car is just a good street/show-in shine car, not NCRS so why in the world would anyone change the tag! Any help?

490M denoted red with AM/FM. Maybe the guy put the M in up side down?

      Re: 63 Trim Tag

Looking at the data you provided, F5 represents the 5th week in February, 1963. There was a 5th week in 1963, the work days were the 25th, 26th, 27th and the 28th. Given that, the approximate last VIN number for a roadster that week was 30867S109814, or car sequence number 9814. Option U69 (PB AM/FM) did't really start until sequence number 11768, but there were a few earlier cars.

If it is an "M" upside down, you have one of the first AM/FM cars.

        Where does this Mis-information

about "M" equaling AM/FM radio come from???? They only use of letters in 1963 Trim codes is to designate "Coupe" or "convertible", ie 490C =s
red in a coupe, 490D =s red in a convertible. I am also reasonably sure that this factory stamping machine would PREVENT a stamp from being inserted upside down. My suggestion is to take a digital photo of your trim tag, mail to Al Grenning and ask his opinion. Be prepared for the answer that your trim tag was prepared by "Pablo's Trim Tags, Inc" with a movable PO Box for an office.

I guess you can blame Noland if you want. He says that after 11-25-63 untill 2 -22-63 the ECLs were applied according to the supplied charts, and M = red interior conv. with U-69.

i suspect our good friend, bily c of lubock, had the "M" turned upside down when he "hit" the trimtag "cause his pumpkin head was turned 180 degrees"

And what letter was used if you didn't have a radi

Please note that DELCO did NOT ship any AM-FM radios to St Louis until February 1963.
