Good luck and let us know how it comes out, Mike. By the way, BE CAREFUL with your spark check technique (extra wire). You'll see the '65 AIM gives a WARNING note under K-66 (TI) advising NOT to test spark on these cars by using 'traditional' coil lead to ground and/or plug wire to ground methods as you risk damaging the TI amplifier protective diode circuitry.
Leaving the plug connected to the plug wire and grounding the plug body keeps the resistive load on the coil within design specs for the system. I'd hate to see you 'toast' your TI box while you do basic troubleshooting....
