    1971 Big block

Recently purchased a junker 71 corvette. Am interested in finding out if it has an original engine. Serial number stamped on the pad is TT223CLB, Along with some other stampings to small to read. I am wondering what those numbers would mean if I could read them. Can anyone help. Thank you very much, Bob.

I don't see CLB listed as a Corvette engine suffix. Can't help further though.

      Bob------

As far as big block engines go, suffix code "CLB" was used for 402 cid engines during the 1971-72 time period. These particular engines were lower performance engines used in full size passenger cars, Chevelles, Camaros and El Caminos. Sometime in the past, your original engine got swapped for an engine out of another car.

The other numbers on the pad are the VIN derivative from the car that the engine was originally installed in. Those numbers might help identify what the original application was, but given what we know about the engine, it's pretty much irrelevent.
