    C2 Voltage regulator

Is John Pirkle the best man for the job of refurbishing a voltage regulator?
Mine still works fine but it had been painted and I would like the whole thing gone through to bring the plating back and probably new resistors etc. Does anyone else do a good job on these? Mine is original with proper date code, part number , cover etc. and I don't want to swap.

Jon does excellent work, his quality will always pass judging muster (he is a judge too). I don't know about others, possibly Don Briggs....Craig

Resistors are wire-wound, filled with asbestos insulation. They do NOT wear out.... What does wear is the internal contact points, but unless they're TOTALLY shot, it's simply a matter of re-tweaking the internal adjust thumbwheel to compensate for point wear and regain the proper air gap dimensions.

I suppose since the regulator works fine I could just use paint stripper to remove the paint to get back to the original finish. I see the thumbwheel and the contact points look fine but where do I get the specs for the proper gap so I can adjust the thumbwheel?

I forgot to mention that the resistors look fine except the ends where they are welded are rusty but if they never wear out like you say then I probably should not worry about them. I am missing the capacitor that plugs into it, where would I find one of those? Thanks again!

            Re: C2 Voltage regulator

Adjustment proceedure for voltage regulator was published in the shop manual (63-65) and then in the specific Chassis Service Manual (66 and 67).

On the wire-wound resistors: the end caps are tin dipped steel and you can expect to see some surface rust develop here over time. But, the contact joints (cap to resistor winding and resistor to v-reg circuit traces) are almost always sound despite minor surface oxidation.
