71 Manual tranny "TIN TAG" identification help.

I have a 71 Vette with a 4-speed manual tranny. It has the "Tin Tag" still attached. I am having a hard time finding what the coded number means. It reads: "3981709WT"

Any help figuring this out will be greatly appreciated!!

GM #3981709 is the GM part number for the wide ratio Muncie 4 speed transmission used in 1971 Corvettes. The "WT" suffix code is the broadcast code for this particular transmission.

The tag on my 71 4 speed is 3981710WY. Is WY for a close ratio as this is a documented M21 car.

GM #3981710 is the part number for a 1971 wide ratio Muncie four speed. Both GM #3981709 and 3981710 are part numbers used for 1971 only. "WY" is the broadcast code for the 3981710 close ratio transmission.
