I have a 1966 427 convertible. It is a 425 hp motor block time stamp C-8-6, rear casting is 3869942, 4 bolt main. I have the orginal protect-o-plate and the engine number on the plate is TO509IPH. Is this how it should be stamped on the block?? I have not scraped the pad but can see enough to make out most of the numbers including the serial number, however not sure the I in the engine number is on the block untill I scrap, if I do. What does the I stand for??? and should it be stamped in the block and should I scrap it to see. Thanks larry

Re: engine/protect-o-plate numbers help
Larry----
For your application "IP" is the correct suffix code. The stamping on your block should be "T0509IP" if the block and/or Protect-o-Plate are original to the car. The "H" seen on the Protect-o-Plate designates a Holley carburetor-equipped engine. It is not stamped on the block pad, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
