    72 Corvette Radio install

I had two rear aftermarket speakers installed and wired into the factory Radio in my '72. I'm now trying to get the radio & speakers back to factory specs. From what I know, if the Radio had a little dot on the on the upper right hand corner of the face (next to FM) its a stereo. The pass. side speaker was missing, so I got a new 10 ohm replacemnet speaker along with the replacement speaker plug & wires. From what I can see, the drivers side speaker is still there and is wired to a male T shaped plug at the end of the speaker cable. I have another plug with 3 female connectors and 4 wires running out the back.
Everything looks like it fits together except the drivers side speaker. I have nothing that "plugs" right into that...I guess I could cut the plug off and just splice the wires together, but I want to do it right. I can't find anything in the parts catalogs that would help me...any ideas?

The two wires from each of your speakes go to the T shaped male connector. The two black wires become common and the two green wires go seperately to the two side by side prongs. The male connector plugs into the T shaped female connector coming from the radio. This should have two green wires and one black wire. You should also have a six wire connector coming from the radio and going to the amplifier.

Should the female T shaped speaker connector have two (2) female side-by-side connectors on the other ends of the wire?

The two prong connector probably goes to the speaker. I am not sure of this but it seems the logical answer. There may be a connector between the speaker and the T connesctor. If I remember correctly the wiring to the speakers are hard wired.

I just installed the Radio after having it repaired...I only plugged in one of the speakers to test the unit (the other speaker cable is a pain to get to) and it doesn't work. Do both speakers need to be hooked up for the unit to work?

You should be able to work just one speaker. Having one of the green wires and one of the black wires connected should do it. Make sure the balance control is not over to one side. Also you have to have the amplifier in order to make the system work.

Thanks for all the help Paul, the balace was a good idea...but it didn't do the trick. I'm sure there is power coming to the radio. But I don't hear anything other than the click of the dial when I rurn on the radio. I think the transistors in the amp must be gone...
