Where do I look to find the rear end ratio code and casting date on my very early '64? I have the code numbers and can decipher them but I can't find them on my differential. The frame and undercarriage have been pretty sloppily painted and I don't mind stripping paint, I just need to know where to look.
The date/ratio code for the diff is stamped on the machined surface on the bottom of the diff, just forward of the spring retaining plate - will probably need some "deep-cleaning" to get the crud off so you can read the numbers. The casting number and date for the carrier is on the driver's side, partially hidden by the strut rod bracket.
John - is the 64 different than later midyears?...my 66 and 67 both have the casting number on the passenger side just behind the driveshaft yoke area, while the casting date code information is where you mention on the drivers side....Craig
