Not in Northern NJ, but Martins of Philedelphia does great work. He did a bumper
that is on my C-1 20 years ago that still looks good and my car lives outside.

I have also been looking for a chrome shop in the area. They all seem to be out of the business of custom work. Union Hard Chromium in Keniworth said they would do bumpers and had samples to look at but I never followed up on their work. I'm still looking let me know if you find someone.

There is an old shop in Paterson, G&H Metal refinishers. The last I was in there (a few years ago) he was doing some work for a customer on an old fire truck resto. Although I've never used his services he was updating the shop and his work looked real nice. I took my "luggage rack" from my '77 there and he was honest with me & told me it wouldn't pay. It was going to cost me a heck of alot more to re-plate vs buy new because it's actually all individual pieces. Give them a call or better yet go there and see for yourself if your not too far away. Ask for Elmer or Richard (973)523-0307.

Does it have to be in north NJ? I've had excellent results from Hanlon Plating in Richmond VA. They do quality work at reasonable prices, and turnaround time is very short.

            Here's a Co. in Mass.

            Nu-Chrome Corp.
            161 Graham Road
            Fall River, MA 02720
            1-800-956-0005

Here's the info/quote he sent me.

            Rich,

Here's how they break down. The front bumper costs $250, the guards $75 each and the rears, $225 each, as a rule. This totals $850. We have to add a 5% hazardous waste disposal charge of $42.50 which bring the total to $892.50. There have been occasions when we have been able the lower the prices on the rear ends, but unfortunately, the job cannot be done for $600. We will give you the best pricing we can, once we have physically examined the parts. I hope this helps you with your decision. We do want your business.
            Best regards,
            Jack
            Nu-Chrome Corp.

Not sure of their work, as I have not seen any examples.

Anyone ever hear of them or have any work done by them?

They're the closest to where I live that I've found so far.

If I find any others, I'll post them.

            Thanks,

            Rich

Nu-Chrome did all four of my 63 bumbers in March 1998. One was very bad as it had flaking metal on the inside. They saved that one and did an excellent job on all. My only suggestion is to ensure a good fit on all the underchassie bolt locations and ensure that the Front Bolt Spacers fit well before having the work done. Bending the mounting brackets after the work is done to install the bolt spacers can cause problems. Also, no matter where you have it done, inspect everything before you leave the shop as a final quality step.!!!!!

Try Frankford Plating, Inc. Philadelphia, PA. I work with Glazier's Mustang Barn (Mustangs are a weakness from my youth) and the only complaints we ever had with them were the parts look better than new, and the price is high. Hey, you get what you pay for.

Two vendors that were suggested to you, Frankford and Martins, are both in the Northeast part of Phila. and probably only 1 to 1 1/2 hrs from North Jersey. They both have been around for a long time and do fine work.

I had my rear bumbers on my 70 done at American Electroplating on Lincoln Ave in Hawthorn, NJ. They even called when they saw a slight bend in the edge and asked if it was alright to fix it. The chrome work was gorgeous. They charged $ 150 cash for each of the bumpers. E-mail me with where you are and what year car and I'll try to give directions.

Thanks to everone for their advise.

I'm going to try Jeff's suggestion, as that company is the closest, as well as he had good luck with them and some decent pricing.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
