    C3 carburetor dating

I have a 1970 corvette. My engine code is V0115CTH. This would be a 350/350 produced on Jan 15th. The correct carburetor is a 7040207. How would I find correct dating if a wanted a "date correct" carb. A 1970 carb would have to be a Jan 1 carb I am told. This does not leave very many carbs. I have been told there are late 69 carbs. And I have been told there are not any late 69 carbs. I greatly appreciate your help/guidance.

    Sincerely,
    Jim

    Jim,

Any carb built in late 1969 and dated that way would likely be fine.

To be more precise with the date, I'd suggest contacting Terry McManmon to see what dates fo carbs are actually on 1970 cars built around the same time as yours. Carburetors were "batch built" and you may find that most of the cars built in January of 1970 actually had carbs built some certain day or week of November or December. I know that has been the case for every Corvette I've dealt with thus far, i.e. that there is a predictable date to search for.

      Caveat....

In '70, two versions of carbs resulted from the implementation of California local emissions requirements. Although approximately 10% of that model years build went to California, we see VERY few NA9 (Cal emission) equipped cars show up for Flight judging! This suggests that many of these cars 'lost' their factory original Cal-emission equipment over time....

The 49-State version of the QJet has a '2XX' part number suffix while the California, NA9, version of the same carb has a '5XX' suffix. Might be prudent to thoroughly inspect the car to try and determine if it was one of the 'rare' California vehicles before setting your sights on acquiring a '2XX' original QJet for your car....
