    67/headlight switch

The headlights work fine cold but after once or twice up/down they will not work.I have checked the wires at the headlight switch and they are fine. Need to know but afraid to ask....what do I check first between the switch and the motor? After "turning" the lights up the switch turned them down but not up.
Also while I was turning the lights I discovered that one of the brackets U shaped that goes to a rubber mount and screw was loose. This is the bracket that mounts to the underside of the nose.I have the L/Is. catalogue and it looks like this would be part # 26? Purdue golf no Design Enginering!

Steve I had the same problem for years on my 67 left side light, some times it would go up and not down , then down and not up and blamed every thing. Then I decided to take the motor off and take it apart. It was easy and I found the problem which I din't realize thier were a set of points inside it.They were a little corroded, I sanded them and added a little more tenion to them and bingo it now works great. So I would check it out.

Yep, The thermal switch is heating up. Probably because it is slow and drawing more current.

        Steve,
Yes, you can clean and maybe even add more tension to the thermal switch, but this is only fixing the effect and not the cause. Take both headlights out and have them rebuilt. There are only a few really good ones. My recommendation is:

He did mine and they came back perfect. He does this sevice for several of the catalog vette parts houses.

          Steve:

I agree with Donald. The overtemp switch is tripping because the motors are drawing too much amperage and overheating.
The culprit is too much friction in the assembly. Check for free operation, and clean/lube as needed. If you have limited ability, send them out for a rebuild.

Before you pull the motors out and go to all the trouble check the backlash (end play) adjustment on the little worm gear. If the backlash is too tight the motor will lock up due to thermal expansion.
