What is the best cleaner to use on an original white '62 convertible top? Also, what's the best way to restretch it. It stays down most of the time and seems to have shrunk so much I can't even begin to fasten the rear catchs.

Re: Cleaning and stretching '62 top.
Be careful that you don't try so hard to strech the top that you break something, namely the tabs on the windshield side posts. If it has shrunk much, it's time for a new top. Setting it out in the sun will relax the fabric a little or a heat gun if you are in a cooler climate may help.
If you get it up and latched successfully, let it sit out in the sun for a few days. A 90+* day would help. May be hard to come by this time of year depending on your location.
If you solve that problem try some Ajax or Comet with a stiff, fine brissle brush. If that doesn't do it and the top is in good shape otherwise, they are fairly easy to dye.- Top

Re: Cleaning and stretching '62 top.
Jack,
I have an original top on my 71 and I to was concerned with the cleaner I chose. I didn't like the idea of an abrasive cleaner. I found a gell cleaner made by Mothers. I don't have the exact name, but their webpage may list it. If not, I believe I bought it from Corvette Central who carries all the Mothers products. Check their catalog.- Top

Re: Cleaning and stretching '62 top.
BW to 'stretch' the soft top fabric is to use a household pump spray to spritz water on the inside of the fabric, move the top into upright position and let 'er 'cook' in the sun periodically 'testing' the latches....- Top
