    tie rod clamps

Original tie rod clamps have two ribs on mid years. The replacement clamps that most vendors sell have one rib. Is the single rib a solid axle part? Or is it a late model configuration?

    Gene----

The "two-rib" style tie-rod clamp, GM #3742920, was used from 1963 until about 1967 or 1968. After that time, the "single rib" style tie rod clamp, GM #3954397 replaced it. This clamp remains available in service for all 63-82 Corvette applications.

        Joe,

I am not sure when the single rib style became available in service, but 1968 through 1972 OEM tie rod clamps were two rib. I recall seeing two rib on 1974 Corvettes, but will have to check some cars before I hang my hat on newer than 1972. I am certain of two rib OEM use through 1972, and the 1970-1972 TIM&JG calls for two rib.

I believe that you're correct; the "two rib" style clamp was used until about 1972. I'm doing some research on this one and I'll post the results in the near future.

One interesting thing on this one is that, based on the part number, the GM# 3954397 tie-rod clamp would have been an early 1969-issued part. However, GM apparently didn't start using it on Corvettes until 1973 or so.

Just a note, if you're looking for some of the two rib clamps, I checked some "leftover" parts from a '70 Cutlass I scrapped and found them used there also
