    67 Speed Warning Abuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It's crunch time for my first PV, and I'm about ready to throw my speedometer in the river.

This thing has buzzed constantly ever since I've owned it, so I've just disconnected the buzzer. Sent it in to be refurbished so that it would finally act normal. Tested it while in the speedo/tach pod before reinstalling in the car, and worked fine. Then after hooking everything up, it's buzzing again! Tonight, took it out again, tested it in the pod and works fine. Now I'm thinking gremlins. Trying to outsmart them, I left the battery connected during reassembly, so I could find out at what point it decided to buzz. Put the pod back in the cluster, tested again, works fine, hooked up all the lights and cables, tested again, works fine. Finally started buzzing while screwing in one of the last cluster screws, and won't stop.

Now I'm frustrated, decided to leave the thing buzzing during dissassembly. Have the cluster forward and tilted enough to disconnect the tach and speedo cable, still buzzing. I've noticed, however, that if I squeeze the pod with both hands enough to visibly see the speedo and tach faces move forward, it will stop buzzing. Unfortunately I can't drive around like this (at least not for very long).

I'm thinking that when the pod is screwed into the cluster, it may be deflecting just enough to short out the insulated connector.

    Any Ideas?

    Speedo ABUZZZZZZ

You mentioned that the buzzings started when you screwed in one of the cluster screws, maybe it should have a short screw at that point to avoid contacting the "insulated connector" you also mentioned. Just a thought.

I had the same problem in my 1967 coupe with speed warning.Once the harness was plugged into the fuse block, the buzzer went on, regardless of the warning needle position. Its a ground problem. My cluster was sent to Corvette Specialties of Maryland to correct the trip odometer(it was causing the speedometer to read incorrectly). When it was tested on the bench all was fine;back in the car the buzzing persisted. It turned out that the gauge faces were grounding on the cluster housing. They repaired it by wrapping the edges of the speedo and tach with electrician tape as an insulation.I corrected it by realigning the housing on the cluster and making sure all the necessary screw insulators were in good shape.Hope this helps,Kieran #11373
