I'm in the process of rebuilding the A/C compressor on my 70 300HP, and would like to know if the compressor was painted as a complete unit. If so, was the triangular thick rear bracket (with shims), and the curved thick front bracket attached before painting having paint coverage on attaching bolts. Also was the pressure release valve installed before painting. Thanks, Lawrence Berte

Re: 70 A/C compressor painted as an assembly?
Lawrence - From looking at a couple of A6 compressors, it appears that the compressor was painted with the pulley assembly in place; but the relief valve was either not installed or it was masked so it was not painted. The brackets where not part of the assembly when painted although they are painted. When you find shims on original cars, they are not painted but have the zinc plated finish. Hope this helps. Re: 70 A/C compressor painted as an assembly?
I have a webpage on the '70 Registry in the Photographic Library with a bunch of detailed photographs of the original unrestored AC compressor from my B18 build date 1970 350/300. The AC compressor was painted after assembly, but before installation. The brackets appear to have been dip painted as evidenced by the runs in the paint. The valve on the side is definately painted black. The valve on the rear has no evidence of paint (or a masking line that I can distinguish clearly). The masking lines from the electrical connector are also shown on the website.
Also, please consider sending me your vehicle specifications for the '70 Registry. I'm trying to track down as many corvettes as possible to gather color and option statistics. You can choose to have your vehicle info published online or remain in the offline only database. Thanks, ~Juliet
