    C2 Speedo Cable Lube

I am cleaning the speedo cable cover internally to remove the gear oil from a faulty speedo gear fitting seal. What is the recommended lube for a C2 speedo cable?

    Thanks,

    James -

Speedo/tach cables are lubed with graphite-based compounds; most good auto parts stores have these lubes, and Corvette Central has a product called "Kable-Ease" made specifically for these applications.

AC ST-640 Speedometer Cable Lubricant is all i've ever used.Don't know if AC still sells it-- my tube is so old its got a metal cap and the tube body is obviously lead. stuff works well,If still available. Its a white paste and is to be applied sparingly.

        If I may suggest sacrilege...

I used Ford Speedoneter Cable Lubricant E6TZ-19581-A on my tach and speedo cables. Works better that I had hoped- The tach chattered so bad I thought it was shot, now runs smooth and silent. Clean the inside of the cable first, clean and install the core by filling the end cup with lube and slowly the cable in, making sure the lube gets on the whole core. Oh yeah, the can is 8oz, so I'll probably have it "forever".

          Dave, John and Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I checked to see if the AC speedo cable lube was still available and the parts man ay my local Chevy dealer. The guy at the counter about had an aneurism when I asked if he could look it up or even if GM had such a product. So I will take Dave's advice and go and buy the lube from a Ford dealer.

          Thanks,
