    1953/54 Expansion tanks

Was the 1953 (smooth sided) expansion tank used on any early 54's? If so, does anyone know about when the newer tanks (with two grooves) were introduced into the 1954 production? Dave

Hello Dave; Early 53's used the smooth tank with a 90 degree bend on the overflow pipe. Later 53's and early 54's up to about SN 111 also used the smooth tank, but some are seen with a shorter, straight overflow pipe without the 90 degree bend. The "two band" style tank was introduced at about 54 SN 120. Hope this helps. Chuck Gongloff

Hi, Chuck...what a quick response! Since my serial # is 641, I guess I should look for someone who needs a '53 tank. It has been restored and rechromed, and is a real beauty! If no one comes along, maybe I'll just take the loss of points! Thanks again for helping out. Dave
