C2: 63 Headlight Buckets vs Skins

I have a really basic question, but it has gotten to the point that I am completely confused now. I am in need or a set of 63 Headlight buckets in fibreglass. I currenty have a set of metal ones that someone installed. I know that my VIN is middle year and that the metal weren't installed until the very end of 63. Since one is damaged and I have to paint anyway, I want to install the correct ones.

Now the confusion: I have seen the fibreglass listed as "skins" in fact Long Island has the following listing:

    53A HEADLIGHT BUCKET FIBERGLASS SKIN (LH)_________________ 63 1 60.00
    53B HEADLIGHT BUCKET FIBERGLASS SKIN (RH)_________________ 63 1 60.00

I have also looked around and found some people willing to sell used or NOS fibreglass buckets but they are asking ~500 + for the set. The metal ones run at about $265 each and this would be in line with that..... so I need to know if I am missing something. Are "skins" still the same as the metal buckets but in fibreglass or does it mean something else. Why would I be seeing such a difference in price.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The 63 bucket is made up of several parts, some fiberglass, some metal. The skins are just the outer covering. So if you had a set, but they are damaged, you could change the outer skin to repair.

Do you mean to say that you could "skin" with fiberglass, starting with the later metal bucket? (I don't think that is what you intended - Thanks). /td

I think I understand where you are coming from, but I have my doubts that this is an item you can purchase as just a "skin" (minus brackets etc to mount). As per the diagram at Long Island (similar to the one I have in various books) it seems to be the complete unit. You can see what I mean at:

I am just trying to confirm that there is no need to purchase a "lining" to these "skins" or that I can just buy the 63 specific parts and rebuild with the parts I have mounted (a 63L - 67 set of buckets in metal).

        Thanks

I have a 64 with rusty buckets, on the bottom when closed. Will I need complete replacements or can I also do some kind of a skin fix if this is my only problem with them?

            Re: Trust Me

Trust Me, He aint goint to sell you the buckets for $60. That is just the skin that goes on the rest of the 63 assembly. And Chuck, the 64-76 bucket dont rust. You will have to repair or replace the HL bezel, but the bucket aint rusted.

Sorry Tom. I meant that you could buy skins for the 63 bucket assembly, but you cant install them on the metal 64-67 buckets.
