      Re: c-1 rear suspension improvement

I had good luck eliminating spring windup by install clamps on the front half of the spring near the end of each lower leaf. With the upper radius rods and the clamps I had no more problem with wheel hop. Cheap, easy and reversable.

        Re: c-1 rear suspension improvement

My '57 had a 40-year-old original set of genuine Traction-Masters on it when I bought it; I left them in place (just re-bushed them) when I restored it, and they really did the trick; solid, smooth launches with no axle hop or wind-up in both normal driving and hard launches. They're very simple devices, and would be relatively easy to fabricate. Traction-Master is still in business (2917 W. Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles 90006, 213-382-1131), but I don't know if they still make them or not. I bought many sets of them back in the late 50's and early 60's, but I haven't seen any in a long time. The bend in the tubular section is part of the design, to provide clearance to the spring in full jounce compression; slick design - doesn't affect roll stiffness or spring rate at all.

Thanks John. I have an email request to Traction Master asking if they still have them for C1 vettes. It looks like they might not work with the factory sway bay bolted to the lower spring bracket.
          Thank you for the picture,
          Denny

            Denny,
This will answer your question regarding rear sway bars. John H and I have been discussing Traction Masters differences off line. Regards

Just to make sure there's no misunderstandig here--- although the 62 AIM does show that extra bumper fo the RPO brake/supension car, the only ones I've ever seen were added by owners trying to get their cars up to snuff for judging. I've documented over 30 RPO cars (62's) that do NOT have that bumper.

                    Racers,
The traction masters look just like lower radius rods but I didn't want any of that stuff hanging down,I never had any wheel hop just bent springs.
I had a pair of Ansen ground grabbers but didn't use them, they were street/strip bars that clamped on the spring in the front and the bar hinged at spring pad that replaced your stock one and extended back 6 or 8 inchs past that and had a hole to install a bolt for strip use.Worked super on my 55 chevy
I'm sure they wound not clear the sway bar on a 62.

                    Judges,
I don't think I've ever seen that bracket on a car other then mine or a factory made bracket even alone, and they didn't install it on the H-D Sus & brake cars. I've never looked,I'll have to look next time I see one.

                    Thanks
                    everyone
