I have a 1967 Corvette with a Muncie 4-speed gearbox that has 3925660 cast on the case on the passenger side of the car. There is also the number 8 cast in low relief on the same side of the case below and in front of the above seven digits.
I am led to believe the gearbox is a replacement but I cannot decipher the stamping which runs in a vertical fashion down the gearbox case near where the flange meets the extension housing. This stamp is also on the passenger side. The stamp is CT9 followed by a space of an inch and then the stamped numbers 41945. This is certainly not my Vin sequence.
As well, on the other side of the gearbox, bolted to the side cover, is a soft metal tag with the numbers 3877459 stamped on it.
I would be eternally grateful if an expert out there can help me with these stamping secrets as I cannot get anyone here in Australia to shed light on this. Thank you.
