67 Speed Warning Abuzzzzz - Addendum

This is in regard to a post I put up last week regarding my speed waring buzzer gone awry. Had the speedo and tach pod restored, but when installed in the cluster and in the car it would continuously buzz.

Thanks to this board, it was suggested that the edge of the face of the speedo was touching the front of the cluster and therefore shorting out the connection. This was exactly the case and after covering the outer most edge with a little black electrical tape, she now buzzes only when I want her to.

    Thanks Kieran,

Bill,Glad to here all is well.I thought of the use of electrical tape as an insulator also, but was afraid with time and vibration, the buzzing could return if the tape wore through.I opted to selectively trim the edge of the face where the interference was occurring;I removed just a sliver of material with a pair of sharp tin snips.By the way, were your speedo and tach lenses mounted with the convex or concave side facing you? Kieran,

After covering the edge of the speedo, I decided to cover the lense bezel with tape as well. Don't want to have to go back in and do it again.

I am using the plastic lenses concave (away from driver). I found that if installed with the curve towards the driver, the shaft holding the speed warning knob is too short.

Bill,I placed the lenses in the same orientation and was then made aware that the JG states the convex side should be facing the driver. The plot thickens!!!! Thanks,Kieran #11373

          Kieran,

My car has been judged six times with no deductions for orientation of lenses.

Bill,Thanks for the information. Since everything in the dash is working well,I am going to hold off on pulling the cluster, just to have the same problem you did with the shaft being too short. Thanks,Kieran #11373

My original appearing U15 plastic lenses are installed concave. I have looked at lots of 67's and have not found an original looking cluster with lenses installed convex. (Bulged out towards the driver) Perhaps more owners of U15 cars would like to respond. A survey of some sort seems to be useful at this point.
