    1962 SOFT TOP FRAME

    HI GUYS,
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW I CAN FIND A '62 SOFT TOP FRAME. THE 62 I JUST PURCHASED HAS ONLY A HARD TOP AND NO SOFT TOP. ALSO, DID THEY COME FROM THE FACTORY AS AN OPTION FOR A SOFT TOP?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. I AM A MID-YEAR COLLECTOR AND THIS IS MY FIRST 62..BIG DIFFERENCE IN DRIVING!!

When one went down to the local chevy dealer to order a new vet in 62, you got either a haddtop OR soft top at no extra charge . If you wanted both , there was an extra charge(Seem to recall it was in the 250 dollar range) The soft top frames for 61-62 are usually seen at corvettes Carlisle for 1500 to 2500 for used originals. There used to be a company(?Sulles) that repos the soft top frames.Good luck in your search. Mike

Marc - In addition to Sullys as a soft top supplier, I beleive Coffman Corvettes (352-394-1311) also can provide frames, tack stips, T-nuts, etc. You didn't mention if your 62 had the soft top frame brackets or not, which might also be a consideration. As Mike sez, this area is not a cheap area to challenge. Cheers, Dick

I gather that your car may have never had a soft top. If this is the case, you will need the rear latches in addition to the brackets. Also, your deck lid will not have the cut outs for the latches. It might be preferable to locate a decklid with the factory cutouts rather than try to duplicate them yourself. A decklid with no cutouts is probably a pretty rare commidity and you might well be able to trade yours for one with the cutouts.

a hardtop delete cover is a whole lot more valuable than one that's been cut out for the latches.get a cover already cut and sell the hartop only critter

              Re: 1962 SOFT TOP FRAME

I have asked the same question about convertible tops over the last 8 years for my Hardtop only car. This includes Carlisle, Bloomington, and NCRS Meets. At first, I was sent to Sully's as the best, but have since found out Coffman's has a better frame. They can also recommend an installer in Atlanta I met at the Forida regional, whose name I have misplaced, but he is good and all he does is install tops. He only uses Al Knoch stuff.

I wasn't aware that coffman reproed soft top frames but his repo core supports are excellent. all I've ever got from Sully was the fastners to put an original back together after i restored the soft top frame. Sully's fastner kit was without problems. mike
