    Re: C2 Exhaust manifold finish

The plasma coating is very thin, and didn't degrade any numbers on mine; judging wants to see some rust and orange paint, and I don't. I re-did the manifolds on my '57 after Flight judging, and re-did the manifolds on the Z/28 after it took 1st Place in the '67-'69 Unrestored/Original Class (Camaro version of Bowtie) at the Camaro Nationals. Rust and paint are fine for judging, but I don't like to see either; one judging per car suits my needs, so now they look the way I like to show the cars.

      Re: C2 Exhaust Manifold Finish

Unfortunately, I am out of town on extended business and my car is still stored. I will try and post a picture in the next week or so. My manifolds look slightly darker than raw cast iron and there isn't any rust or other oxidation. At the Stone Mt. Regional two years ago a couple of judges commented on how nice they look. they don't look like John H's but they look like used manifolds that don't have rust, paint, coatings or any other agents on them.

As I mentioned in the original post, I got my PreLube 6 directly from Quanta Products. Check their web site. I also have used it to prevent rust when I cleaned up my enginge compartment frame. It seems to work well at its intended use. Someone quite a while ago challenged how a product that gets burned off by the heat of the manifold can work. Don't know; don't care. It has worked fairly well so far.

When the car comes out of storage, I will post further comments if you are interested.

Thanks Gary. I look forward to the pictures. Up here in Connecticut I think it will be awhile before we can go cruising as well. Too much sand and stuff on the roads.

This may be heresy in terms of originality but a graphite spray put on with a soft cloth and heated in the kitchen oven at 250F for 30 minutes works very well.

            Gary,

I'll drive over this weekend and take it for a drive for you. I might even look at the manifolds while I'm at it.

I guess your extended absence explains why my e-mails haven't been answered. If you could, let me know if there's any way to contact you. If not, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know when you'll be back home. Just a clock question or two, and some Meet logistics.

            Thanks,

Any detectable coating will trigger a deduct. The lighty rusted look with some vestiage of orange overspray is what a judge wants to see.
