    71 454 Quadrajet

Three months ago, I posted a request to help me find a resource to buy the number matching carb for my car. Many of you responded and advised that I contact Jerry Luck in St. Louis to order the carb for my car. I immediately called him, had a very cordial conversation, was quoted a price which I accepted and after 3 months have no carb and cannot even get a return phone call on the status of this order. Now I could understand a supplier becoming irate at a rude customer but this has not been the case. Every phone call message and conversation has been pleasant but no carb.

I tried another approach with Just Corvettes out of St. Louis who buy from him. Gave them the protecto plate info via the Internet and wsa told the carb would be here befroe the April Charlotte show. They have not been able to deliver either.

Who else is out there who specializes and has the cores to do a top notch job for the Quadrajet I need? Carb is a 7041204. MY CORE IS NOT A NUMBER MATCHING.

Do any of you fellow members know Jerry Luck to ask him what gives with his business? I CAN'T GET A RETURN phone call!!

    Michael,

    Try Mark Smith at http://www.blake.com/oemcarbs/index.html

He sells carbs as a business, and I have heard good things about him. I know of someone currently getting a carb thru him that is on order. I know NOTHING about the gentleman he has rebuild/restore the carbs, but I hear that Mark offers a money back guarantee. You may be able to get a "package deal" off the carb + restoration price.

Else, try Chicago Corvette for a core as their prices are not bad. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, HAVE THEM RESTORE THE CARB FOR YOU. Upon receipt of the carb, send it to Brad Urban's Carburetor Shop in California. They are very good, and would be my other choice if Jerry is a problem for you. You may want to call them and check on pricing of the restoration, but I believe their price is competitive. Urban's advertises in many magazines; let me know if you cannot find the number.

Jerry Luck is not a multi-divisioned large company. He has some health problems and you may find him in/out from time to time. I gave him a Q-Jet in mid-March. Typically, I've seen stuff back in a couple of weeks. But, it's the beginning of May and no carb.

I called several times and got the recorder. Finally talked to him Friday. He apologized for delay, gave me status on my job (which I believe) and said he'd been away for a few weeks (everyone takes vacation now/then) and then was committed to the Carlilse show. Said he was digging out and catching up.

Bottom line: he does exist and has never disappointed me. Sorry to hear your frustrations. Don't understand if your ordered the carb from him, told of your delivery requirement and Jerry agreed to meet it, why he missed it. Also if you ordered from him and haven't been able to get in touch, what's going to happen if/when he fills your order and you've gone elsewhere for supply.....

Jerry has since called me and tells me he has been behind and will get my carb out. He is booked up and running behind on deliveries.
