I am lifting the body off my 77 and would like some input on what problems to look out for. The body is from the fire wall back only. There is no front on the car.

Re: C3 body off restoration
Convertible or coupe, I would keep the doors in place and closed when lifting to help brace the cage.
Depending on how your lifting the body (mechanically vs the brew crew) the more dead weight you can take out of the car the better, such as seats and tracks, carpet, etc.
If your using lifting straps and a hoist, make sure that the clips that will hook under the sill edges cannot slide in either direction. Sometimes when the body finally releases from the frame it's sudden. That's why I say "A little at a time" "Constantly check undernieth for forgotten attached items", and "Be patient".
Then of course your going to have to separate all the goodies from either the the body or chassis such as battery cables, ground straps, filler necks, etc.
The body I would think would be fairly level without the nose attached so it should pick up fairly level. If not, your going to have to watch those lifting strap clips and your lifting device big time! The lift should be as close to perpendicular as possible
Never lift any higher than is necessary to get the chassis out from under the body.
Have what ever your going to drop the body onto ready to go so your not scrounging around for materials while the body is dangling in mid air. Time is critical to get it back onto something stable.
And most importatnt, NEVER GET UNDER THE BODY ONCE IT'S SUSPENDED. It would be nice to be around to see the finished product. Safety Safety Safety!
I have to believe that my 68 would be similar to your 77, so for what it's worth, I hope it helps a little.

Re: C3 body off restoration
Thanks Chuck: What you say makes a lot of sence. I was worried about the body flexing and have decided to raise the car frame and all then weld a frame work to support the body while I lower the frame to the ground. That way the body is supported and does not have to move while I clean and paint the frame. Thanks again
