Will the latest version of American Racing's Torq Thrust D's fit on a 58? How wide can I go? I was thinking a 7" wheel and 70 series tires. I just want to improve the performance and road feel and have a set of "street clothes" for fun. I plan on keeping the wide whites on the orig. 5" rims for "formal wear". Is there a source for 6 or 7" steel wheels that will accept my original hubcaps and not cost $110 each? I figured for the extra 40 bucks per wheel go with the Thrust D's which have been a eyecatcher since high school. Any help with the proper specs of the Thrust D's appreciated and also tire size and brand. Thanks, Ken

The currently manufactured 7" wide Torq Thrusts should bolt on, but my understanding is that they won't clear disk brakes on C2s.
Shod them with a set of V-rated 225/70R-15 police pursuit tires - Goodyear Eagle RSA, General XP2000V, or Firestone Firehawk PV41. This size has the same revs per mile - 760 - as the OEM 6.70-15s, so your speedo/odo accuracy will not be affected.
I'm not absolutely sure if this combination will not cause any interference on a C1 - depends on the wheel offset, but somebody out there has probably tried the 7" Torq Thrusts with the same or similar size tire and should be able to give you and idea if it will work.

Kenn - Duke, as usual, has good advice, but I'd excercise some caution on fender clearance before I laid down the frogskins for wide wheels. The clearance on these cars is minimal, at best. Additionaly, each tire manufacturer has their own opinion about how wide a given tire size really is. The variation is larger than one might expect. Best, DennisComment
