I am ready for frame paint (1967). A neighbor of mine (local auto body tech school instructor) mentioned using a two-stage epoxy primer as a base from PPG. He said the color is semi gloss, followed by a filler spray that can be blocked down to take out ant imperfections and then recoated with the epoxy primer. I need some solid advice. Has anyone used PPG epoxy primer --- do I need to paint a color ( please give numbers staying in the PPG brand) over the primer?

I'm exactly at the same place that you're at with regards to frame paint. I'm going to use the ppg DP90, which is a semi-gloss black, and topcoat it with Imron which has been flattened down to a satin finish also. You really dont need to topcoat the DP90, but the Imron is extremely durable and probably more washable, and I'm opting for the extra work as this is going to be a driver car. Hopefully I will have this done by this weekend, and I'd be happy to let you know the results.- Top

You may want to try a self-etching primer over the bare metal for best adhesion, then fill it if you wish (depending on desired level of perfection). You could then prime and paint with respective epoxy materials.
Remember, 67s originally had an asphalt-based topcoat. Some then spray this on after epoxy for the ultimate in factory appearance AND durability.

After media blasting my frame I sprayed it with black PPG DP90 primer and then used black Deltron with a flattening agent. It came out very nice. Be careful mixing brands of paint, Imron should be used over Dupont primer. Several folks I know just use the DP90 primer as it makes a very nice finish. Of course PPG says to use their Deltron over the DP90 as they want to sell more product. I used it because I already had some and just needed some flattening agent. If you are going to show for NCRS then the asphalt base stuff is what you should use, perhaps over the DP90.- Top

I chose Imron for mine and was very pleased with the appearance, but I was building a driver and I wanted it to be durable yet look similar to original finish.
I used Dupont Imron N8079U (semi-gloss black Dupont formula your paint supplier can mix for you) with 192S activator over 615S self-etching primer with 616S activator.
Preparation and cleanliness of the frame before painting are very important. Read the label for time limits between coats, which is also important.- Top

I was working on my frame this afternoon, and noted that even though my frame was somewhat rusty, the pitting isnt all that bad. Unless you have a lot of cratering, you probably dont want to start messing with filling in the pits, as this could become a separate project, in and of itself. good luck!- Top
