Re: 67 sunfire yellow lacquer
The paint's out there, just depends on how SERIOUS you are about getting 'correct' original paint! If you go to PPG's website (www.autocolorlibray.com), you'll find they go WAY BACK in years listing original blend codes by make/model and even give blend codes for specific interior components repleat with appropriate gloss factor! From this, your painter should have no trouble obtaining PPG's current replacement blend to match.
Of course, what they sell today will be formulated differently from the original blend in order to comply with current Federal regulations regarding environment/safety. But, the REALLY DEDICATED restoration purist can actually obtain factory original lacquer paints (or so darn close you can't tell) if he/she works at it!
Example: in 1963 Sebring silver was the only color choice that was a cost adder ($80.70). It had brilliant sparkling reflective properties due to the large flakes of lead used. Nobody, to my knowledge, in the US makes a replacement paint according to that blend code that's 'on the money' due to it being acryllic lacquer AND the use of embedded lead.
But, the US is NOT the world! There are places around the globe where laws are enforced selectively and what's impossible to obtain here/today, is still available there....
A member of our chapter just returned from Europe taking advantage of the airlines' bargain fares. There, he did due diligence and found a boutique firm in the EU that would custom blend Sebring silver for him repleat with the original sized lead flakes! Further, he had his choice of having the paint blended in acrylic lacquer or, long US abandoned, nitro-celluous lacquer. Nitro-celluous is considered the only museum piece 'correct' finish for rare, antique wooden musical instruments and is still used in certain places for restoration/preservation.
Bottom line, he obtained the elusive Sebring silver as a legal transaction/sale outside the US and had it shipped to himself via ocean freight (certain hazardous materials can't go by air anymore). So, while you hear statements that this/that CAN'T be obtained anymore, take 'em with a grain of salt. Depending on the level of 'heroics' you want to undertake, just about anything's physically possible....- Top

Re: 67 sunfire yellow lacquer
Any dupont jobber should be able to connect you with a store that can still mix your correct color yellow. many jobbers dont want to spend the money to stock the mixing colors. but there are enough of them out there .I just bought a gal of daytona yellow last summer . If you cant find it dupont bc/cc is a perfect match. Bill- Top
