    Help a Rookie

I just bought a 1970 Corvette Convertible 350/300 HP for restoration. I am reading all these C2, C6 numbers that I think refer to body style. What number refers to the 1970 that I have? Thanks, I am learning.

    1970 Corvette is a C3 (1968 to 1982). 1963 - 1967 is a C2

      Steve,

There is a link at the top of the page to NCRS Lingo Defined. You will find this to be a very useful guide while you learn all of the terms that are used on this board, and in the Corvette Community.

In addition, the "C" term is a relativley new one. NO ONE used it prior to development of the new 97-and-later Corvette. In fact, each of the previous generations has a nickname or 3 that were generally used to describe them. The interesting thing is that since 1984 and until 1996, it was always the "new" Corvette for referring to the latest generation. No common nickname had come into being by 1996 to take over designating thta generation, and the "C" designation sort of took over for all of them.

A few of us locally sat around at Bl**mington one weekend and decided that the 97 car actually should get the designation "C17" based on sub-categorizing the previous generations, but that's a different story.

Don't forget to get the NCRS Tech Info & Judging guide for 70-72. It's 130+ pages packed with cool information. When I first got mine (before I bought my '70) I carried it around with me all day, even to lunch till it was dog-eared (literally) and I drove all my coworkers nuts with the obscure details! Be sure to check out the '70 Registry, and join too! There's a lot of information in the Resources section. Holler if you've got any other '70 questions. ~Juliet
