    HELP!! 63 Roadster Horn Problem

    Hi,

The horn blows, sometimes, not always, when the steering wheel is turned to the right or left. All of the turn signal mechanism has been replaced.

Any help or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Re: HELP!! 63 Roadster Horn Problem

Your horn blows by making contact from the neutral wire returning from the horn to ground. Your horn button makes this contact. You most likely have a skinned horn wire inside your steering column that makes contact with ground as you rotate the steering wheel. It could be right where the wire makes contact with the horn ring or just below that.

Take a physical look at the wire for any skinned insulation. If you have to tape a string to the wire (very securely) and pull it out of the steering column to look at it. You can then use the string to pull the wire back in after repair, or replacing it.

    Good luck.

Hi Ron, The contact ring will most likely failed due to corrosion. The slightent amount of rust here prevents function. Wire wheel this part and the formed metal piece after you disassamble the plastic rivets. The plastic rivets can be reused. I replated my metal ring & formed stamping after the corrosion was cleaned up. Your results should yield you a horn that functions all around the rim of the button. Tell us how you make out.
