    C3 Actuators

I am in the process of restoring my original 69' wiper door and headlight actuators through Dave's Corvette Restoration. Question is on the orientation of the headlight actuators and the style, size and content of the date stamp on the actuators. NCRS and Dobbins mention and picture date stamps, respectively, but define no further.
As far as orientation of the headlight actuators; are the elbow tubes pointing toward (inboard) or away (outboard) when installed? A number of parts catalogues, manuals and magazine articles seem to show both conditions! Given that they are sold as RH and LH there should be a factory correct orientation. The NCRS manual does not specify. Also, should the canister indentation be positioned at 12 o'clock when installed? Thanks for your help!

    Don
I just checked my '69 and the elbows face outboard and there is a left and a right. The indentation is at the 12 o'clock position. I also have my wiper actuator at Dave's Corvette Restoration being redone. It's been there since January and I hope I get it back sometime this millenium.
    Hope this helps

Given the way that the side-specific actuators are configured, I believe that there is only one way that they can be installed. If you wish to install them some other way, then modifications are necessary.

        Joe,

Actually they'll install on the opposite side just fine.

You're welcome to come over and see them that way on my 71 any time you'd like. Since I have AC and that silly condenser mounted in front of the radiator, I wasn't about to remove them just to swap positions. That's too much like work. But, I can guarantee you I will always remember which is correct now.

Yes, you can switch sides with them. But, what I was refering to is that the correct one for either side can only be installed in one orientation.

Thanks to all that replied on the orientation. Anyone out there that can comment on my date stamp questions?

Pretend you're an hourly union worker stamping a date somewhere in the middle of the back side (the side that faces the motor) and stamp it on! The ones on the original 1970 units I have are done that way. You've got to remember that this was hourly work, and getting the date nicely lined up in the center of the back was a low priority.

              Does that make any sense?

Thanks for reply. What is the makeup of the date stamped on your 70'?
