Is the gloss black Rust-Oleum (Professional line) high performance enamel a good choice for a fan shroud and bracket? Is priming necessary when painting directly to bare metal with Rust-Oleum? Thanks for any feedback. Jim

Paint Choice for C2
Jim,
I've been using Rust-Oleum semi-gloss black on my bumper brackets and in some cases I've painted directly on bare metal, but when there is some slightl pitting I use a filler-primer, sand that smooth and then paint a top coat with the Rust-Oleum. So, with Rust-Oleum you can use a primer if you want, but it's not necessary.

Those items should have a satin finish - Krylon 1613 semi-flat black or John Deere Blitz black.
Only the radiator is gloss black.
These paints should be self priming, but thoroughly sanding any corroding areas and treating the parts with Metalprep -available at automotive finish supply houses - should help ward off corrosion.

Re: Paint Choice for C2
The 65 JG list the fan shroud as gloss black with a moderate sheen. Is there an error in the JG? I have painted mine with an 80% sheen catalyzed enamel.

Re: Paint Choice for C2
I checked my '63 JG. Trying to decribe a gloss level verbally is an excercise in frustration, but the implication is that the radiator shroud has more gloss than the core support. I don't remember it being that way, but then I don't recall inspecting the gloss level and making notes when I took delivery of my SWC 40 years ago. I do recall that the radiator was much glossier than the surrounding black painted surfaces.
Guess I shoulda stayed outta this one!
