Clutc Fork Throwout bearing / 68 Corvette

    Gentlemen:
I am starting the reassembly of my 68 coupe with 4 speed manual transmission.
In preparation of mounting the transmission to the engine for reinstallation into the vehicle, I have the following questions to which I seem not to be able to find answers in the assembly manual and therefore need your help.
Do the bolts that attach the bellhousing to the engine (3/8 x 16 x1 1/4)require lockwashers? There are 6 bolts in total. What is the torque for the bolts?
What type of grease should I use on the throwout bearing, pilot bushing, and clutch throw-out fork?
I have white lithium grease or Kendall HiTemp wheel bearing grease. Which do you recommend?
Thank you as always for your input.

    Kurt-----

The original bolts for bellhousing to block were flanged head type. No washer is necessary or was ever used with these. If you don't use flanged head type bolts, then use flat washers under the head of the bolts. Torque on the bolts is 30 lb/ft.

For the release bearing groove and pivot ball, I'd use the high temperature wheel bearing grease. For the pilot bushing, several drops of engine oil.

      Thank you Joe.
Haven't been here in a while. Finally got the engine back from the shop with all your specifications and suggestions incorporated into the rebuild.
The bolts I have for the bellhousing are the correct flanged type so I will not use the lockwashers.
Thank you for your response. Going into the garage now to install the transmission to the engine.

Should I grease the output shaft (spline) of the transmission also?
      Regards,
      Kurt

Just put a little grease on the splines of the yoke to ease installation.

The original lube for the throwout bearing (ID and OD) and clutch fork pivot ball was gray moly lube; you can usually find it in auto parts stores - I use ARP "Assembly Lubricant" - same thing.
