    78 Speedometer

I have located the original km speedometer for my 78 Pacecar that was built for export to Canada. I have removed the 5 screws holding the tach/speedo pod but it does not want to come out. Can anybody help with instructions on to replace speedo?

Also I need to add km to make mileage accurate. How do you "run up" speedometer? I bet nobody has asked that one before.

    Thanks for the help

    Re: 78 Speedometer

I hope you have a copy of the Chassis Service Manual for your car and you've read its step-by-step R&R (remove and replace) instructions BEFORE you tackle this job.... There's a correct order to doing things and it's possible to do damage if you don't execute the job in the right order! I haven't done a '78, but it's probably a bit similar to early Shark ('68-73).

The book should tell you to drop the steering column before you attempt to R&R the speedo/tach cluster and also tell you about miscellaneous back side connections that have to be removed before the cluster will be fully free to remove. Vac lines for the headlight pods and the main wiring harness are among these. You don't want to RIP through the main wiring harness held in place by a clip!
