    C2 Grille Brackets

I purchased a new grille for my 66 and need to rivet the brackets to it. The 66 AIM does not show the correct set of brackets for my car. Could someone tell me if the top of the brackets are rivetted to the outside top of the grille or the inside top (so that you would see the bracket top inside the opening). The brackets don't fit properly if both top and bottom are rivetted to the outside of the grille opening, therefore, I'm of the opinion that either the top or bottom is rivetted on the inside.

    Thanks,
    Dave Kitch

I'm not sure I understand your question. However the grill brackets pop rivit to the fiberglass behind the grill area. The grill screws to the brackets.

I purchased new brackets and mounted them with the mounting tabs on the outside of the grille. The rivit heads are all that is visable on the inside part of the grille. As best as I can remember, that is how the old brackets were mounted to the grille. I agree that these brackets are then screwed to the brackets mounted to the inner wheelwell.

          Steve,

Actually, I should have looked in my service manual that shows a good picture of how the brackets are rivetted, boht top and bottome on the outside and with the round head of the rivets on the outside, both top and bottom. My old grille was badly damaged and I couldn't determine the proper assembly from it.

And they are not pop rivets, but are solid type.

Yes they were solid. I used aluminum head rivit, punched out the post, and filled the hole. Looks fine.
