I want to confirm that the engine number on my 1970 Corvette 350 matches the body. Where do I find these numbers to confirm that it is the original engine, and what part of the number should match? Thanks for the help.

Re: Matching Numbers
Don------
The last 6 digits of the VIN derivative stamped on the engine block stamp pad should match the last 6 digits of the VIN. The VIN derivative is one of 2 series of numbers stamped on the stamp pad which is immediately in front of the passenger side cylinder head. The VIN derivative stamping is the line of numbers which DOES NOT begin and end with letters.
The vehicle identification number is found on the driver's side windshield pillar post under the glass. It is also on your vehicle registration and owner's certificate issued by your state. The numbers on your pillar post VIN plate and the VIN number on your state-issued registration/owners certificate SHOULD DEFINITELY MATCH. If they don't, you've got BIG problems. You'd be surprised at how many folks don't check this.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Matching Numbers
Working from an old 1970-1972 Judging Manual, the location of the number Joe referred to and the one you seem to be asking about, is described in the Mechanical section of the manual in some detail. If you're concerned about the pad stamping, take a digital picture and forward it to Al Grenning. He is the expert in pad stamps and broach (machine) markings. He may even have numbers on file that are close to the production number of your car to further validate what you've got.- Top
