    C1 Headlight Switch

I will be replacing the headlight switch on my '56 soon and have noticed that they come without the pull knob. How difficult is it to put the knob in the new switch? My pull knob is original and in excellent shape.

There is a button on the switch you push as you pull out your old nob out, then when you put the new switch in just push the old nob in.

        Steve,
The rod knob is about as easy to remove as Roy states. Caution, there is a headlight switch spacer behind the dash. These little spacers are easily lost because many don't know they are there and when the switch is unscrewed from the front bezel the spacer usually drops onto the dash rail and never gets returned where it belongs. The little spacer is between the back af the dash and the switch body metal bezel. Without the spacer the headlight switch angles slightly toward the steering column. More noticable when the rod is pulled all the way out. Regards,

          Steve -

Check the link below for a photo of the often-missing mysterious '53-'57 headlight switch spacer; I found mine years ago sitting in the channel section of the lower instrument panel reinforcement, as Jim mentioned.

Just to be really specific. You pull the knob and shaft out to turn the headlights on (with the battery disconnected), and then you push in the spring-loaded button on the switch, and while doing that, pull the knob and shaft the rest of the way out.
